The Ultimate in Resistance Swimming

The BADUJET Turbo Pro

Resistance swim training: why swim jets (like the BADUJET Turbo Pro) are a brilliant upgrade for new and renovated pools.

Resistance or counter-current swim systems have transformed small domestic pools into genuine fitness spaces. Instead of needing a long lap pool, a strong, steady stream of water gives you a continuous swim-in-place — excellent for cardio, strength, technique work and rehabilitation. At Unique Pool we’re fitting these systems routinely in new builds and renovations: most recently we installed a BADUJET Turbo Pro in a domestic pool refurbishment in Euxton, Chorley — and the customer has been delighted with the training results.

What a swim jet actually does

A swim jet produces a concentrated, adjustable flow so a swimmer can swim continuously against the current without needing to turn. Modern units use variable-speed motors and refined propeller designs to create a clean, turbulence-reduced stream that suits everything from gentle aqua-fitness to full-on swim training. The BADUJET Turbo Pro, for example, is designed to deliver very high flow for intense resistance training.

Benefits for fitness, rehab and everyday users

  • Time-efficient cardio: you get a long, steady swim without needing a large pool or lots of laps.

  • Low-impact conditioning: water reduces joint loading, making resistance swimming ideal for rehab and joint-friendly cardio.

  • Scalable workouts: variable speeds and interval work let novices and elite swimmers both use the same setup.

  • Strength & technique: holding position in a current builds core and shoulder strength and lets you focus on stroke mechanics.

  • Year-round access: installed indoors or outside, a swim jet gives the same consistent workout regardless of pool length.

(These advantages are the reason many pool owners opt for jets when they want fitness without space for a full lap pool.)

Why BADUJET Turbo Pro is a strong choice

The BADUJET Turbo Pro is built for professional-level flow (the product is rated to move large volumes and is intended for demanding resistance training). It uses a propeller design for smooth, turbulence-reduced flow and offers variable-speed control so you can fine-tune intensity. The Turbo Pro is available with both underwater push-button controls and smartphone integration on certain installations.

Can you install swim jets in renovations (retrofits)?

Yes — many modern jet systems are explicitly designed for both new pools and existing pools. The BADUJET range, for instance, includes guidance and manuals showing how the Turbo Pro can be fitted into gunite/concrete and some other builds, and the “no-plumbing” direct-in-wall design of some Turbo models simplifies installation compared to older counter-current systems. That said, retrofitting requires careful planning around wall structure, depth, access for the motor and electrical supply.

Practical retrofit considerations we check at Unique Pool

  • Pool depth and location: many high-flow units perform best with at least around 3 ft (~0.9 m) of water in front of the jet so the stream develops properly. The Turbo Pro literature highlights minimum depth guidance.

  • Structural work: embedding the jet into a pool wall often means making a recess or vault behind the unit for the motor and wiring — this must be planned during the renovation (or created carefully in a retrofit). The Turbo Pro often requires a service vault or access space behind the wall for maintenance.

  • Electrical supply: higher-power models (like Turbo Pro variants) can draw substantial current and may need a dedicated circuit (for example the published spec shows significant amp draw and a 40 A service recommendation in some configurations). This must be installed by a qualified electrician.

  • Installer competence & warranty: manufacturer guides strongly recommend installation by experienced pool professionals — both for safety and to preserve warranty. We always follow the installation manual and local regs.

The Euxton, Chorley refurbishment — a real example

On the recent domestic refurbishment in Euxton, Chorley, the customer wanted a compact pool that doubled as a proper fitness facility. During the renovation we created the in-wall recess and service access the Turbo Pro needs, confirmed the water depth and upgraded the pool’s electrical provisioning to meet the unit’s requirements. After commissioning the jet we tuned the flow profiles and familiarised the homeowner with interval programmes and safety controls. The result: a small, elegant pool that’s now used daily for structured swim training and recovery sessions.

Which jet is right for you?

  • If you want the strongest, most training-orientated stream and have space for the installation requirements → BADUJET Turbo Pro is an excellent contender.

  • If you have a tighter budget or smaller pool, smaller swimjet units or different brands offer gentler currents and simpler installs — many manufacturers make retrofit-friendly models that suit compact pools. Compare flow rates, depth requirements, noise levels and power needs when choosing.

Ready to add resistance training to your pool?

At Unique Pool we handle both new-build installations and careful retrofits. We’ll assess your pool’s structure, depth and electrical capacity, recommend the right swim jet model for your goals, and carry out the installation to manufacturer spec (including creating access vaults where needed and commissioning the unit). If you’re in the North West and want to talk about the Euxton project or arrange a site visit, get in touch and we’ll run through a tailored plan.
